any tips or helpful tricks when using one?

install the "IN" side after your carbon blocks and filters but before your DI chamber. The "OUT" side needs to be after the membrane and DI. That way you will be able to see when it is time to replace you filters and DI separately.

Mike was talking about a dual in line setup TDS metering system, Is yours just a hand held? If so rinse in tap water after each use unless the instructions tell you other wise.

I think you'd use it like you would a thermometer. Poke the probe in the water and read the numbers.
