Tds meter

I was wondering and decided to ask the forum what is a TDS meter and why would i need one? I was told i should get one but not sure why.

TDS meter (Total Dissolved Solids) measures/tests the amount of impurities in your fresh water.

I usually use mine to double check the inline one on my rodi every once in a while
