So the ingredient in melafix is from the tea tree plant. Melafix is used for bacterial infections. If you use tea tree oil, like the stuff from health food stores, that is organic can you use it instead of melafix?

Oil and water dont mix. The melafix is in water soluble form.

Melafix uses diluted tea tree oil, but pure tea tree oil is too strong for fish. While tea tree oil might fight bacteria, it can harm your fish. Stick with Melafix or consult a vet/aquarist for safer options. Focus on keeping your tank clean to prevent infections in the first place.
