tech-M dosing for bryopsis?

So manually removing bryopsis is not working...it just disseminated it around the tank! I was able to remove some, but not all of the rock, for treatment. Now I'm ready to give tech M a try. My first question is what should my target Mg concentration be (I've read between 1500 and 1800 ppm)? Additionally, how long do I leave it at that level, ie 2 days, 5 days ect?

I'm removing my snails but wonder if my shrimp will make it through the treatment

Before you do that might consider one inversion first

Take out your worst bryopsis rock and put tech m directly on the target outside the tank, not dosed to the water then let it sit cooking four mins. Set back in tank and check on it in 48 hours

When that works awesome, do all rock that way then do your water dosing as growback preventative only after the whole mass was already killed by direct work and you'll be able to spike much less

Treating your water when there is no invader after a chemical burn, not just a fragmenting hand removal, is a key inversion in simply ridding a tank by force.

It's true the levels you are planning to dose have fixed many tanks it's ok to try. Magnesium is a critical component in algae photosynthetic pathways and that can easily be a kill mechanism when spiked...just because the entire internet said it was a contaminant in the tech M doing the work doesn't mean I believed them at all. Magnesium can be used as a direct kill algaecide saving us from long sustained water dose runs at least as the requisite method. Alternates for magnesium boosting exist.

Thanks for the advise Brandan! Unfortunately I can't get all of the rock out (I have a 220 gal) and its also in my overflow. So I'm going to have to raise the Mg in the tank...any idea on the concentration or duration of treatment?
