Woah hey there! Before you say one of the following like Octopuses
- are extreamly hard to care for
- are escape artists, seal your tank and hide your kids
- will die in a nano, it's to small
- are going to kill me and my family in our sleep
- only live a couple months
Chances are I already know. I've been studying Cephalopods for the last 3+ years, along with being an active member on http://www.tonmo.com/community/ I've been working with a local marine biologist who is a well known author who specializes in inverts to prepare this build as well as a local octopus guru to supply the 8 legged critter and ensure the perfect conditions are met.
Since this is the first ever Nano in 90 to based upon and Octopus, and one of the few nano cube octopus builds... As oppose to just doing a regular build log, I want to take the time and clear up some misconceptions going around about octopus keeping as time goes on, like yes certain species of dwarf octopus (in my case) an Octopus Mercatoris can survive happily in a 15 - 30g Nano/Bio Cube for 2+ years if properly cared for. I’m going to try my best to keep this updated as much as possible and will include as much information as I can on care needed for dwarf Caribbean species.
Anyways here is a picture of the tank as of last night, 6/5/2014 with only sand and live water. This is 20 minutes after putting the water in so that’s why it’s so cloudy. 10lbs Live rock will be going in after a few more water tests. Then an additional 20lbs of live rock.
