What is the general purpose of teeth on overflow? To restrict debris from flowing into the next chamber? To slow flow down?

Would appreciate thoughts on benefits or downfalls.

Thank you!

Thank you, I feel like I have seen them in sumps or refugiums. That is the application that I was going to use them in, so no worries about keeping fish in. Any thought on that?

Personally most i have seen dont have teeth. Those that might have them could have critters in that area that they are trying to avoid jumping ship. I googled around for ya and saw no additional answers for the teeth in overflows or sumps for that matter...everyone talks about it being for fish or critters...with the exception of snails since they go where they want LOL

I always thought the teeth allowed for lenience in desired water level.
You can keep the water level anywhere between the top and bottom of the teeth and still get flow from the water's surface.

There actually harmful on tanks because it cuts your surface skimming down horribly but it is what it is the reason is to keep snails and fish in the tank... In a sump people use them on baffles to help pop bubbles...hth bro.. Ahahaha lol just playing...1smile1

No worries lil lady! :) hahaha. Don't mind at all, honored to be considered a bro. well... honored might be a stretch. ANYWAYS... teeth. I was not really planning to have much in the fuge besides pods. If that is the case I should not go through the trouble to put teeth on the baffles that lead to the return pump?

THANK YOU!

It is primarily to prevent snails and fish from going in. Snails however end up crawling anyways :). I also have had a few fish that jumped into the overflow when constantly chased.

You can but it's not really needed honestly I have made sumps both ways and never noticed a difference if you have 3 baffles for bubble control there kind of pointless IMHO...

Very cool, thank you! It will make my life easier to not have to make teeth. I am planning 3 baffles for seperation.
