Hey guy's, I have been looking into deepwater acro's lately and would like some information on them as far as there care and lighting need's

Are they not as light dependent as other acro's because they are from deepwater, or do they still have the same needs as any other acro?

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated

Many "deepwaters" actually crave more light and thrive in high light.... atleast the ones I've had. Deepwater is really ust a label slapped on smooth skin acro's, they don't even necessarily come from "deepwater"... I mean exactly how deep is deep? If they came from my thought of deep water they would probably be classified as more of a NPS then SPS ;)

Be careful dipping them. I've lost some due to dipping. Try to get them from tanks u know are pest free, so u don't have to really dip.

They can deff be more temperamental than a regular sps, all that smooth skin lacks polyps so rather than say a millepora super concentrated with polyps in a 1/4" area you may have 1-3 polyps only to keep happy with say an acro simplex or lokani the room for error is greatly diminished....good luck Deep waters are some of my favorites ive got a simplex that is thriving in the upper third of my sps tank.

They are a little more acceptable to light shock. They need to be acclimated mid level and moved up slowly.

+1 to this remark...most every deep water I have is very sensitive to dips and fragging. IME they are generally more sensitive than other acros in almost every aspect

Totally agree with the posts above about dipping. I do not own any as of yet but seen first hand what a barrage of dips can do to the "deepwater" acros. They need lots of light too.

Hmm ok I appreciate the responses guy's, I may just hold off for now on getting any deepwater acro's until I have my refugium setup as well as the rest of my new equipment I am ordering until everything levels back out FWIW I am ordering/building these items "refugium, Avast marine CS1 skimmer, Avast marine swabbie, Reef keeper elite W/ all needed modules, 2 media reactors I have will get plumbed finally, new ATI bulbs for my 4x24 T5HO fixture, MP10Wes, and possibly a few other needed/wanted items"

Every time I've fragged a "Deepwater" for a reefer, I always tell them that they brown out no matter what and then they'll regain their color if it's happy
