How much of a temp swing is considered bad? I'm trying to dial in my heater and fan to my apex. Thanks!

With my apex my swing is 77.8 to 78.1....just crank up the heater to a couple degrees above your desired temp (incase of a malfunction you and heater stays on dont want it to nuke the tank, ex if you want water at 78 turn heater to 80. ) Then set it so your heater turns on on the coldest point (for me 77.8) you want the tank and have it turn off at the highest temp youd like (for me 78.1). And I just let my fan run all day and night

Mine goes from 76 to 81.

My tanks have always had temp swings. IMO/E, it is better to have a swing that is within the normal range of the inhabitants that you plan on keeping.

About 10 years ago I had left the temp probe out of the sump by accident. This happened on a cool fall night with the windows open. When I finally realized it the tank was 88*, and had been that way for at least 2 hours. If I hadn't felt the water while feeding the fish, I would have never been able to tell --- everything was acting/looking normal. This is including clams, SPS and an S. haddoni.

I don't have a very big swing myself, but looking around on the issue it seems there is really quite the tolerance for large temp swings in the 76-84 range.

if you have an apex i would minimize the swing by as much as you can, thats the point of gettig these controllers. Also the big thing with successful tanks is stability, so i don't know why you would want any swing. IMO and IME just pick a temp you like keeping your reef at and keep it right around there.

I'm pretty much the same way with temp. I figure if I have the tools, might as well use them... lol

Sounds like your temp is pretty stable. Thanks for the heads up

That's my plan. Thanks
