I thought it was a flower cup or something, but it looks like a zoa with a giraffe neck, lol

Appreciate the help. if i need to move the post, let me know where.
Those are zooanthids did you not buy the colony?

As mentioned it's the temp swing that really does the harm. My tank used to get to 84 or 85 pretty often with no losses. A fan blowing across your tank or sump will cool the water at least a couple degrees. I use one of those clip on Walmart fans for 10 or 15 bucks.

I was told after speaking with a few other LFS that they are Pandora Pallys? Either way, I got the entire colony and they may have been overpriced.

Your apartment must be cooking. As long as it's cool out this thermostat controlled window fan should keep the place cool. I have 2 of these, very good quality.

It cooks, by keeping a few windows cracked and keeping the biocube lids open with an APEX, temp has stayed between 77-79. because the evaporation from the lids being open, i bought a refractometer to verify specific gravity. so far tank is doing well and had no losses.

I feel for you! I had a top floor apartment once and in the winter I always kept all of the windows opened it was also in the high 80s. I wasn't able to run A/C though it was controlled by the building. I also suggest blowing a fan across the top. Evaporation creates cooling. Good luck!

I had a 4" IceCap fan mounted on a piece of eggcrate (as mentioned above). These cost a little more, but are a little better suited for use around salt water and may last a little longer. They also have a thermistor that can speed up the fan a bit if temps rise. The original fans were discontinued, but are now available again. CoralVue is the distributor for these now. Mine was due for some cleaning. :-)
