hi guys,

I can't figure out what's causing my temperature to stay high. it stays at about 85 degrees. when I noticed it I kept turning the heater settings down until they were all the way down and the temp was still high. I unplugged both 150watt heaters and the temp is still high. I'm running an LED light system so I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with that. Is my room temperature too high maybe? I had my temp at 79 degrees and I didn't have problems before I'm not sure what's different now. it's not like it's summertime weather or anything. my tank is 55g with a 29g sump. protein skimmer, carbon/gfo reactor, refugium, return pump, 2 mp10's.. that's pretty much all the equip I'm using.. thanks in advance. I feel like its something obvious and simple I'm just overlooking it maybe.

Your indoor temp is 79 degrees? I could see pumps and lighting bringing the temp up to 85.

I would recommend setting up a small fan to blow across the water in your sump, that will lower the temp by at least 3 degrees.

Do you have access to a kill-a-watt? Might want to double check all your pumps to make sure they're not running hot (pulling more wattage than they should).

Another thing you may want to consider is double checking your tempature reading, those cheap digital ones are not very accurate and I have had a few crap out on me.

Its probably whats mentioned above, but if you haven't cleaned out the return pump in a while it may be causing it. Not sure how a mj1200 translates into a bigger return pump but when the filter in mine gets clogged the tank temp starts to rise. A good cleaning later and my temps drop back to normal.

thanks for all the great responses. ive currently dismantled my display tank due to a cirolanid isopod infestation and my temp seems to be fine. So my cheap digital thermometer is reading 79-80 degrees again. So that eliminates most of the theories except for cleaning out my return pump which is the only thing left to do. it's a mj3000. oh and the LEDs and mp10s are not in use either but I am hoping/assuming that those aren't causing the problem.

Don't know whats causing your issue, but curious why you keep the room temp so high in the winter? I would have to run around naked to be comfotable in a room that hot.
