That will get you a lot of different "opinions". What sort of livestock? Are you talking, hours or day to night or over a few days? You will hear reefs have cold spots, hot spots from currents. Sun will warm a lagoon. High tide will cool it down.

I'm running between 77 and 78 with my heater controller.

I would highly recommend a heater controller or a reef controller for your heaters if you don't already have one.

I want to have a reef tank and trying to get all my set up right. The fish don’t seem to mind a bit of movement. The hammer head Corel I got seems to not like it.

My temp drops over night. What are you using for temp control? I’m in Australia is there online option to get it there?

Hammers should sway in the current , not be blown away .. so low-Med flow area of your tank ..

1 degree is about all I let my tank move. 78.2F to 79F. Its hot in Texas. If you are keeping nems you need to keep it around 80F.
This is the style heaters I have. Mine are titanium not glass. These have the controller.

I use jebao's for wavemakers. I also use a Inkbird 308 tc for heater controller.
