I'd like to try a temperate build for my next project, and I think an Evo would be perfect for it. I'd like to move my Catalina Goby out of its 4g jar, and chill the water down to about 17-18C, or about 2-4C below ambient room temperature at work. That seems to be warm enough to deal with condensation issues, and doable with a Chill Solutions CSXC-1 (as soon as they're available again). I'll also try to source some hulafish.

Has anyone else tried this with an Evo? Thoughts on evaporation and condensation?

I definitely don't have any experience with temperate builds and frankly I think they are fairly rare in the hobby. However I'm happy to bump you and hope you can catch the weekend crowd because I'm definitely curious to see this project.

An ATO would seem to solve a lot of your evaporation and condensation concerns, but I've always struggled with PH on closed top tanks. Is this an issue in your current setup?

I thought it would be, but pH in my tropical Evo has held steady at around 8-8.1. Not ideal, but not terrible, either.

I'm encouraged by Tamberav's 7.2g coldwater build. She says that evaporation hasn't been a concern, so there should be less of a need for an ATO and, since I'm only going to reduce water temperature to 2-3C below ambient room temperature in the office (always at 19-20C), I'll be able to go with one of those Chill Solutions chillers, which are considerably less expensive than industry competitors). And condensation should be less of a problem with a smaller temperature differentiation.
