I was digging through some boxes after I moved and found an old unused temp controller and I wondered if it could be used in my upcoming 180g tank. I bought it 20 years ago or so for a kegerator that never happened. Has anyone heard of or used a Johnson Controls A419? Can I use it or pitch it?

You may be able to use it. If the controller still has the probe it would not be able to be submerged in the aquarium/liquid. They are meant to be used in a thermowell or in a refrigerator type situation. You would have to get a resistance type water temp sensor that would be submersible. You can use it but it will take some wiring, parts, etc. Not quite plug and play. They are great controllers though. If you don't use it, sell it, possibly on a homebrewers forum. I hope that helps a little.
