Not to revive an old thread, but if you're looking for a temp controller that can do less than 1 degree, I believe the Pinpoint USA temp controller does that. It's a dual controller and doesn't use a metal probe.
I forget what it's made of, but it's about 2 inches long, an inch in diameter, and looks like a tube packed with a dark material. Very long cables.
It's a dual stage, but each side can do 1k watts. I use Mag Clips to attach the sensor in the tank. It's pricey at around $200, but I've been using it flawlessly for years. A company called Champion Lightning sells it on Amazon.
I don't use a chiller, but put a 2 way cord into the heater port for two 300 watt Eheims. I already have the 3-way port for three 300 watt titanium heaters for my 180. The Eheims are just too long.
