Well, there is better than Ranco It's sold by AquaLogic.

It's a Ranco controller with temp probe that is epoxy encapsulated in a small titanium tube.

These things just never fail.

I have an AquaLogic one. For sure bulletproof so far, but so are my other Rancos. Not sure that they even need the probe to be sealed up like that, but I guess that it does not hurt.

I used mine in primarily freshwater aquariums and storage tanks without anything on the probes and never had a problem. I do the same with both my Saltwater tanks and periodically check the probes and non of them show any signs of problems. I might encase them in silicone and tubing in the future but for now they just work as is.
