Should I be concerned about my tank temp seems to keep creeping up? IM Nuvo 20 Tank - Eheim Jager 75W in the back sump set to 75 degrees (turned down yesterday) Aqua top 100W in ATO reservoir set to 72 degrees. Temp measured by Macro LCD digital thermometer. Temp keeps creeping up over 82. We from 82.4 to 82.6 in just the last hour or so. Shooting for 80 or so.....

What’s the temp in the room? Is the 20 a 20g tank? If so you might not need that much power in your heaters. Also, what’s your light schedule?

82 is on the high end... There has to be something else heating your tank if your heaters are set that low. Are your lights really high output and close to the water? What do you keep the ambient temperature at in your home? There may be an issue with the thermostat settings on your heaters as well. Do you run them through a controller at all?

Agreed. It seems that you’ve got heat coming from something other than the heaters. Do you have a lot of pumps running? I’ve seen some pumps put out a lot of heat. Also, lights can be a big factor. What kind do you have?

The lights are AI HD Prime on their 12 inch arm. the pumps are the native pump that comes with the tank as well as A Fluval Sea CP1 as well as a AquaGadget ghost skimmer and Aqugadget reactor. temp has held steady at 82.6 for an hour or two. Lights are on 8am to 5pm, hour ramp at both ends. Ambient temp is on the cooler side, in my office, unheated in San Francisco, mid to low 60's probably.

I do not run them off a controller, should I? I would be excited to buy another gadget! Suggestions? See below for answers to your other questions.....

Depending on where you live..Arizona, South TX, Florida for example..., you could need a chiller, and that's not a little gadget, its kind of waste to most. When you are at work does your airconditioning run continuously ro keep the house cool?

No sir. I live in San Francisco. Pretty constant 67 degrees. Give or take.

All of your pumps dump heat directly into the tank's water. If you add up the wattage on all of the pumps it is roughly equivalent to running a heater of the same wattage all of the time. Because of this, any tank will run a few degrees warmer that the room temperature without a heater on. If your room temperature is 68 deg F then the tank might run 70-71 deg F without a heater. I have an acrylic tank and it runs about 5 deg F warmer than the room. A glass tank conducts heat better so it's delta T with the room will be a little less. My guess is that the wattage of all of pumps is really high for the tank size, OR, the heaters are malfunctioning, or one of your pumps is clogged and requiring more power to drive it therefore dumping more heat into the water than normal
