Don't have a good thermometer to check temp, heater in sump is set to 78. 48x24x24 and located near front door. Good size transom window above door with very large window in front dining area. Keep temp in house 72 during day and run 66-67 at night. Not sure if these elements will play factor in temp in aquarium. Any opinions?

Don't see a heater controller mentioned. I wouldn't have a tank without one and recommend inkbird.

What size and brand of heater?
As stated, I'd never trust a heater on its own to necessarily be accurate.

Bigger concern for me would be IF heater is undersized and your house is at 66.
How often is the heater ON (heating),,, hopefully not continuously?

Picked up a Hannah temperature check. It’s gonna to real real effective tool in managing multiple tanks. Know that would work well for one tank too

That said a good stainless steel meat thermometer has matched pretty well Ana. And a whole lot cheaper

Not sure brand, it was a used piece when I received it. Yes leave on continuous

I actually didn't mean do you leave it powered on all the time.
You said it was set at 78 degrees so it should kick itself on/off based on temperature.

I was wondering if you could tell how often it turns itself on/off (actually heating or not heating) and, if so, if it never goes OFF, that would mean it can't get the temperature up high enough.

not sure what you are asking here? You say you don’t have a good thermometer to check temp…either buy a good one or three bad ones and average the temp out.

Heaters are designed to raise the temp only a certain amount, if the room is too cold then you will need more wattage and your temp will fluctuate.

I also recommend a Inkbird controller.

Question is my torch and meat coral haven't looked good. Nitrates getting up probably 5-10 now, po4 no detection with salifert kit. Zoas, blasto, mushrooms and BTA look very good. Trying to see if it's not just po4 causing torch shrinkage

I really don't know bro, it's at bottom of sump. I'll attach a pic.

You need to try and rule out all reasons why your corals are not looking great, not knowing the correct temp is not helping you pin point the reason.

Salifert is only good for po4 to judge whether your po4 is under 0.1, if you can see any hint of blue, then your po4 is over 0.1, you will also not be able to tell if it’s zero, as anything below 0.1 looks as if it’s zero.

Hanna checker 774 is the best for po4. 5-10 nitrates is low, so I can’t see it being the cause.

For a cheap and fairly accurate thermometer I found a digital food thermometer good, or a good old fashioned photographer’s thermometer used for developing prints, these are cheap and accurate.

Is that an aqueon pro heater? They are actually not bad heaters but u need the big 300w one.
They can be completely submerged too I believe.
Yes please change those hose clamps out for plastic hose clamps/crimps.
D
What adversity comes from rusty hose clamps?

Is there something wrong/inaccurate with the cheap little mercury(im assuming) based thermometers, like the ones sometimes included in store tank kits?
