I just got a chiller because my tank was reaching 82-83 in the day, some people say it isn't a problem but it bothered me so I got a jbj 1/3 hp chiller for my 210 reef. I have had the chiller up and running now for a few days and the temp reading I'm getting from my chiller is totally different from my APEX temp reading. I set the chiller for 78 degrees, and the chiller has been keeping it around that area according to its thermometer. But according to my apex the tank is 79-80 degrees when. How do I'm I supposed to tell which one is accurate? I would like to keep the tank between 77-78 degrees but I'm not sure if I should believe the chiller or apex.
Another problem im encountering is 1-1.5 temp swings every 5-6 hours. The chiller has a -/+ 1 degree range. I have it set on 78 and it won't kick on until it reaches 79. So my tank heats up 1, sometime 1.5 degrees in under 6 hours then the chiller kicks on and brings the temp down, is this ok? I'm having about 4-5, 1.5 degree swings in a day with the chiller. When I didn't have the chiller it would have one peak and one low in a day, but it was about a 3 degree dip.
