I live in florida and my tank runs 78-81 degrees,140 gal T5 ago 8 bulb.I run a fan on my sump.the question is there a benefit to running the tank at lower temperatures which would require a chiller or additional fans.my tank top s sp s dominant and doing great, just wondering if lower temps will benefit in any way

Bacteria and some baddies thrive better in warmer water. That being said, I once had a tank I let fluctuate with rock nems. I’d open windows and let it get colder in the winter. They spawned a lot lol

Not really. There has been speculation that running lower temperatures around 78 degrees Fahrenheit can slow the progression of parasites such as ich. It does not stop it from happening if it is in your system.

What can be troubling is a wide swing and temperature very sudden, like 5 degrees within hour or two.

I personally keep my system at 80 degrees with no problem.

If it was me and tank is doing great as is, I'd leave it alone... why fix something that's not broken?
