Hi all, Im all of 2 months in post cycle of reef tank and recently added a 1/3 HP Arctica chiller which is slightly oversized for my 120 gallon tank. I had originally set the chiller at 78, thinking it would turn on once it goes above 78, found out after setting it that it actually seems to come on at 79, then proceeds to cool down until the display hits about 76. My question is 1) is this normal operation for the chiller? 2) is there any way to fine tune it so it turns on sooner and turns off before it drops the tank temperature that much? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Seems pretty accurate to me. I dont have the same brand but i set mine at 77 so the tank never exceeds 78 degrees. At night it sits at 76.

Artica chillers will cool 1 degree down your set point, this means if you have your set point in 78, it will cool down to 77, sometimes 76.7 and turn on at 78.1+ and will work based on those numbers.

Thanks for the response - I actually found that my Artica was waiting to turn on over a degree above set point (e.g. if set at 77 would turn on at 78.1) and then would shut off one degree (or even 2.5 deg) below the set point. I wanted tighter control so ultimately went to an Apex and now it varies no more than 1.5 degree total.
