I was wondering what is an acceptable temperature for starting a reef tank at? What kind of temperature swing is ok in a day? My tank is currently at 75.2.
Thanks!

I've always heard 1 degree full swing Max daily. 75+/- .5 for example. Less is best.

76-82 degrees is acceptable. But keeping it under 80 would be best.

Here is my swing. I started a higher temperature at 6am on the 4th. Is it to much of a swing in the 18hour period?

My tank reached 83.2 today from 78.0 this morning. Happens frequently without any harm. Not ideal but it's too cool for to turn the air on.

I just wanted to make sure fish and corals would be able to tolerate a few degrees in a day. Where my tank sits it can warm up in the house when I'm gone so I didn't have boiled fish when I return.

Try to stick with about 1° of swing.

Often raising the nighttime temp is an easier way to deal with it than moderating the daytime temp.

Peak temp up to about 83°F or so, I wouldn't worry about. Even higher could be ok....up to 86° I think...but I'd probably add a fan if it got that high.
