So I got this (torch) from my LFS based on it's appearance before having done any research about it whatsoever.

I placed it first about midway down the left side rocks, but it seemed to be getting too much circulating from around the front. Anyways I then put it where you see it now, but I am concerned that it is too close to this anemone (which has not moved since I placed it there a couple weeks ago) and the green star polyps, which has also obviously not moved but also has not grown for several months (although it looks relatively healthy i suppose).

should i be worried about the torch, which after a week in the tank seems to be a lot bigger already (than it was in at the LFS)? Will it harm the anemone or GSP or both?

That’s not a torch, it’s a Hammer. My experience with them, they are not as aggressive as torches are. That being said I’ve never placed any of my corals that close to an anemone.

ah yes - my mistake, hammer it is! the concerning thing is how much it seems to have grown in such a short period, so that it's now already almost touching the anemone...

another thing: none of the corals are attached with any glue to the rock, i just kind of wedged them in a bit into little crevasses, so presumably i could move the hammer quite easily, or the polyps - i'm not sure where i would really move it to though. the perimeter of the tank seems to get too much horizontal flow from the powerhead, so the front-left I don't think is an option..

Hammers can handle some flow if its indirect. When your trying to find a spot just give it a few days to see how its reacting to the flow.

You could also try and add another rock or 2 to get the hammer higher up where it’d be less likely to sting anything.
