Hi all, so my complex is slated to be tented and fumigated in mid June :(

I've been doing a bunch of research and it seems like the best method is to tarp the whole tank, turn off lights and leave everything else running (possibly with the return pump off) and run the skimmer air intake to the outside world. This will draw in fresh air to the tank expanding the bubble which will have a small hole/slit to allow the fresh air to push outwards keeping the pesticides out.

I wanted to see if anyone else had first hand experience with this process and what did/didn't work? Also what did you guys do with all the various chemicals, test kits, additives etc should they be bagged or removed also?

Thanks!

If it was me, I would break it down and move it.

Yes, that would be the best course of action but I've seen plenty of instances where the move did more harm than the proper preventative measures which is why I made this post to gather some more recent first hand experiences.

I would believe your risk of loosing a few things moving it out is less risk of loosing EVERYTHING if any of your efforts and precautions fail leaving it.
If it gets contaminated, you will loose everything.
That stuff is designed to get into every orifice of the building and it's contents.

Let me tell you what we did. We construct a plastic wall with a double fan we get some wood from home depot and tick clear plastic film that what they use when painting (tick is better we did like a little house just for the tank and we were lucky it was a window behind the tank and then instal the fan at the window (the fan we get it at the Home Depot to for about $30 one side pulls air from outside and the other push it out) and the tank was fine just make sure to have enough water for the time you tank will be cover and I think you good to go. For your lights buy a timer because if you turn your lights off more than 3 days you Gonna loose a lot.

Thanks everyone for the input and feedback, after some careful consideration I've decided to drain as much water as I can into a trash can/barrel and throw all my rock without coral on it into there and have a separate Rubbermaid tub for my rock with coral, fish, snails etc and move it to my friend's house nearby that won't be fumigated the same week as mine. I will then wrap up the main/sump which will be as dry as possible and return everything after about 50 hours with a large amount of fresh mixed saltwater to cover any die off / dilute any lingering pesticides.

How did everything turn out? I am getting my place tented this weekend an I need to figure out what to do with my 100gal reef tank..,.. any help would be amazing. I will get all the fish out and house them in a separate tank at my other place.... But what should be left on inside the tank? heater? lights? powerhead?
