Termites and quarantine

It sounds like these two topic should never be included in one sentence, however what happended to me was that i had an outbreak of flying termites in my fish room and they land and died into the surface of my qt where i was hosting my red tail butterfly. I changed water quickly but now butterfly is not eating and having signs of fin and tail rot.

Have anyone had similar problem? And how are the termites affecting the qt?

As far as I can tell they would just foul the water when they landed and died - it also depends on how many have done that and how long they have been floating on the water. I get crane flys that will land and die in the sump but it doesn't seem to effect anything in the tank.

How long have you had the butterfly? What are you treating with in QT?

Just a guess on my part but ... I wonder if the swarmers have some sort of toxin on their body which leaches into the water after they land?

In addition to doing water changes, I would also run carbon.

My thoughts as well- chemicals or pesticides they may have come in contact with before getting in the water. I hope they would have died before getting the chance to fly around though.

Nice catch. If the swarmers came into contact with any pesticides, that would do it.
