What do i do with reef aquarium if tenting my house for termites?

tenting is when they put an "air tight" tent over your house and fill it with pesticide to kill all the bugs. You may have to take the tank out of the house until that's over.

I would suggest you remove the aquarium from the house completely until such time as the chemical has a chance to dissipate. You could end up with a system that would never be deconed. This is a very strong pesticide necessary to kill the termites.

+1

I almost had to go through this recently.
the options that were thrown out to me were:

1. tenting the tank and running an air line out side 20+ feet away from the house. using the skimmer, or separate air pump. (difficult to do)
2. moving the tank outside of the house, (friends house, LFS, etc.)

Realistically, like others have already stated, moving the tank is the only REAL option. the odds of leaving the tank in the house and having it come out OK are well beyond slim to none.

Ouch.
Yes move tank out.
How bad is your termite infestation.
I'm asking as used to have a pest control license and tenting used as a last resort :(

What size tank we talking here and what you all have in there?

Depending upon how long the aquarium needs to be sealed up, you could use an oxygen tank to pump pure O2 into the "enclosure". Or even run an airline into the aquarium itself. Just place the oxygen tank inside the stand and open the doors, so oxygen can flow upwards towards the aquarium. Point all your powerheads towards the surface of the water to draw the oxygen in. Buy this (and a regulator) and get it filled at a welding supply store: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-1-4-oz-Oxygen-Gas-Cylinder-304179/202044702. You can also use it to fill bags with pure O2 for shipping/transporting fish long distances. I would also run carbon in your tank as an insurance policy, just in case.

Of course, the best thing to do is to remove the tank from the house before all this termite bombing stuff begins. The above plan is not without risk.

Welcome to R2R, The only option is to tear is down and see if your LFS will house your fish, corals, or put everything into a rubbermaid beer tube with the power heads, heater, and light.
