termites in my tank stand

I was just presenting a possible option that I thought would be less harmful than insecticides etc near the tank and should be fairly effective. Do a little research. I believe they flush silica into termite holes etc. Honestly idk what you should do here. I'd probably get a pro to inspect the rest of the home as well

Thanks for that.. i'm ordering from amazon, it's ok to go to FL. I just wish it would get here this week (it's predeicted end next week (aobut two weeks from now ) , there is no option for faster shippping. The manufac. web site has faster shipping opts but it's $20 mre there and it's $55 for 2nd day ship.. $13 for ups ground. bleh.

Yes, several option for treating wood with something that penetrates the wood. I did some reading and this product works the best so I bought it to treat all the new lumber to our house addition. It is called BORO-CARE, you can buy it on line. Not sure if they will sell/ship to Florida as there are some States that regulate stuff like that. It is a process to use, it is thick and you have to mix it with warm water and a drill. Then paint it on the wood and it soaks in. Takes time to dry. For the tank stand you may have to wipe it off after a few days before you paint the stand as the product may stay a little tacky. I was told this product is what they use in Hawaii cause thermites are bad there.

Any brush will work, BUT you actually want a Wetter mixture with boracare, than should be painted on. You are essentially trying to flood all of the wood fiber as deep as you can with the water/ insecticide mix. The water will dry off leaving the chemical behind. Painting on only puts this at the surface level.

I spray it on with a garden sprayer. The hotter the water the better.

I'm quite sure I have termites in my stand. I have had flying ants (termites) in my apt flying at the lights at night. It's not termite season here I dont think (ft lauderdale). There are none out site. I thought til now they were coming in from outsite somehow. Until just now I see a lot of saw dust in back of my tank stand.
What do I do now? Do I need to fumigate my entire apartment? I dont see any indication of termites or dust anywhere else.
Edit: I know my condo (yes i'm in a condo ugh) to prevent termints has injected parts of the wood with some detterannt. Is that sometthing I need to do? I"m thinking I need to call a termite exper

Those termites may not be coming from the tank stand. Depending on location they may be coming from a wall.

You may see mud tubes or mud like patches on the walls.

they are coming from the tank stand 99.999999999% .. theres a long pile of sawdust behind, and adjacent to tank, as well newly found dust in the stand, ON the sump (therefore in tank water).

edit and background: I know my stand may nbot be the onlyi palce they are. But my building is fighitng termintes, so i'm only worred about the tank stand now. if eliminating the stand doesnt solve issue of 'mites in my apt then I'll take steps with my building -- after sealing my new stand. I know i cant bge the only person with 'mites in their apt. I might be the only one that knows about it though. // if the bigger issue needs to be dealt with for the whole bulding, my new smaller tank will be much easier to quarantine from fumigation than the one being taken down asap.

It's very possible your dealing with dry wood termites.

Don't fumigate! The vapors are likely lethal to the tank. Call a professional, if they don't have experience with working around aquariums, call a different one!

Dry wood termites best way to deal with them is gas. There are ways to protect the tank. If they are in the tank stand best get a new stand.

I dont see any saw dust anywhere else.. other than them going to the beams unseen, that should be a good sign (??)

Dust/pellets is waste.
Drywood don't pull moisture from the air. An area with a sump is going to provide them with plenty of moisture

Subterranean termites pull moisture from the ground/dirt. They build mud tubes to keep moisture high.

Thats drywood termite frass. Definitely need a pcp to come out. I would also notify property manager. The whole building needs to be treated. Most likely it's going to be tented and treated with vikane gas.

Your welcome. Inspect the underside of the stand. Those pellets fall from above. You are right to be worried about the structural integrity of the stand. They eat all the wood except for the grain and can do significant structural damage before you realize it.
