Terry's 180 SPS Peninsula Upgrade

Yes, I use Red Sea NO3PO4X, Reef Energy and Coral Colors.

I hesitate to say this, but I just guess. I am only dosing like 8mls daily of each. I do have the Coral Colors test kit, but the tests are such a pain, I rarely use them.

These testkits are a pain in the butt and once you get a result you will doubt if it is correct.
I am using the coral colors also and I followed the instructions on the box... 1ml/10ml Ca. As I dose 32ml of Ca a day, I add now like 2 ml of coral colors. That is 1ml lower than prescribed, but better on the safe side as I do not know how many of each element is in the box.
Started with this only some days ago.
Do you how much Ca you dose on daily basis?

The tank is doing well. I had an AEFW issue I had to deal with, by pulling all of the SPS and QT-ing and dipping in Bayer every 5th day. It seems to have worked. All of the corals are back in the tank and things are recovering nicely. I lost a few pieces, but mostly things were fine. Color seemed to bounce back in things like the slimer pretty quickly.

Aside from that, I have just been keeping up maintenance, adding a few fish and corals, and really enjoying the tank;

I absolutely love having the sump in the basement. I've been running this tank on a Jebao DCS9000 for almost a year with no issues. I take the pump apart once every few months and clean it. We are in talks with a contractor about finishing the basement, which will make the fish area a separate room, which I think will be good. I added a vent fan over the sump that vents outside and put in on a timer so it runs every 4 hours, for 4 hours. The basement is noticeably less humid.

I completely stopped using GFO a few months ago and the Fuge has taken off. Phosphate sits around .02-.06 on a Hanna ULR checker

WOW! Love this tank! I'd definitely have a hard time paying attention to the game. LOL Great stuff!

I love the tank, great job so far and I hope everything continues for you. I just ordered a PAR meter as well because I also have 3 kessils over my tank and I think I have them set a bit high. Just for reference I ordered the new Apogee SQ-520 which provides accurate readings for LEDs(full spectrum). Its a unit that hooks to a laptop but its cheaper and has a few more features than the MQ-520 which has its own head unit. If you go to apogee's site they have some really informational videos on LED PAR meters and the reasoning behind the inaccuracies of the units that aren't full spectrum. Only problem is they are backordered until mid July but will be shipping out all backorders then. Good luck with everything and have enjoyed following along.

So, quick update on the tank...

Things are looking great. After treating for AEFW with Bayer, everything has colored back up, and looks better than it has in months. All of the SPS has great PE and the tank is looking great:

And... The tinkering continues.

I have been thinking about adding some blue LED accent lights, but I didn't want to mess with the fixture, as it looks so nice. I have also thought about adding a floating canopy that matches the stand. I haven't added the LEDs (yet), but I did make and paint the floating canopy today. I painted the outside the same as the stand, and the inside the same turquoise as the inside of the stand/island:

Update time.

Tank is continuing to thrive. We are quickly approaching the 1 year anniversary. I set the tank up in November of last year. Everything continues to do really well. I am seeing a ton of growth from the SPS, and colors are looking great. I've had to up my kalk dosing considerably to keep up with Alk demand.

Thanks for sharing that video with us!! Fantastic tank!!

Thanks for sharing your tank Terry! It is really beautiful. I have been following from the beginning. Your build has been one of the inspirations for my tank, thank you.

Great work.
This is going to be my model for future upgrade...
What's your technic for maintaining such good tank?

Great looking tank, love the attention to detail!

What is that other tank in your basement? It was off to the side with a separate sump.
Why did you feel you needed blue led strips?

Now that you have a canopy, retrofit T5s and Radions will fit perfectly. [emoji6]

I love the aquascape on this tank with the three pillars. The lights are beautiful too. You definitely have some neat scape options on big tanks like this.

I am holding a tank for a friend l. That's his.

I had Radions and T5s on my old 120. I loved the Radions, but have been really happy with the Kessils.

I added the blue led strips for a bit more pop in the morning and evening.

Update time!

I have been wanting to incorporate a 20 gallon high tank I had lying around before the fuge, hopefully replacing the fuge and allowing me to use the 40B as a frag tank. So step one, move the drain plumbing to the 20 high, and plumb that to the 40B:

My sump is starting to look a bit Frankenstein-ish, but it does add water volume to the system and gives me options with the fuge.

I also drilled what was the return section of my sump for a 2" bulkhead and plumbed it to a 40B under the stand:

This allows me to use a common sump for any tanks I add to the basement (like the 180 In-wall I am planning when we finish the basement!!!)

I also added some brackets to the hood for the LED strips:

And a tank update shot:
