I am really pleased with how things are looking so far. I cannot take credit for the stand (beyond the primer and clear coat) that was all my cousin who cut and welded it for me.
I drained the tank from the leak test last night, and promptly flooded 20 gallons of water on our new bamboo floors... Of course.
I bought the sand, and am just waiting on BRS' door busters to pick up an RO/DI unit so I can get this baby wet.

personally I would just buy a rodi off ebay unless you think brs is going to be cheaper. but the rest looks amazing. starting from scratch gives you the ability to try things you didn't before. careful with your plan on the angels they may nip. cant wait to see the outcome of this tank.
I made a snap decision today...
I wasn't crazy about the noise level from the Jebao DCS9000. Anything above 1 on the controller and there was a noticeable hum. The tank is in the living room, and noise level is a huge concern for me.
So... I picked up this guy:
It took a bit of figuring out to get it plumbed up. I am running 1" flexible hose for the return, split to 3/4". The outlet is 1-1/4", which I reduced down to 1" and screwed in a 1" barbed fitting.
I am filling the tank with RO/DI as I type this. I'll be transferring over my rock and getting the cycle going this week.

Are you running it internally or externally? Curious because I've been considering one for my CL pump. Interesting about the Jebao noise level. As I said earlier, I have a DC 12000 running internally, but it is a Waveline. Can't really hear it at all. Hopefully this new addition takes care of the problem. Let us know how it performs for you.

You can hear the Jebao pump at about 25 seconds or so. The overflow is silent, but the pump was "noisy". With the tank in the living room, I'm going to have to be very picky about equipment.
I also purchased a Neptune WAV starter kit, should be here Monday. I just need the Apex to run it

I also got adventurous and hung our floating mantle that came from my parent's barn:
The tank is about 1/3 the way full with RO/DI. I'll be adding my rock and sand this week. Neptune WAVs should be here tomorrow (of course, I don't have the Apex to run them yet) and I bought a used Gen 3 Radion and a Kessil A360We. Not sure exactly what combo of LEDs I am going to go with. I think 1 Radion in the middle with two Kessils on the end, but I may end up going with 3 Radions and forgo the Kessils. We'll see how I feel once I get one of each over the tank.

Love the setup, I have been following. I also just need a few things and noticed that you are still in need of a skimmer. I just bought the Vertex 180i from BRS door buster. It was $150 off, you might already know I just figured I would pass on the info.
I loved the Vertex Omega 150 on my 120. My concern with the 180i is that it is rated for a lightly stocked 180. I have no plans on lightly stocking this beast... I placed an order with my LFS for one of these:

Nice, figured you probably already had one picked out. My tank is 150-160 with the sump so it will hopefully work well for me. Let us know if you find a deal on the apex. I also have the WAV's and need the gold package. Just looking for a good deal.
I don't have a pic, but I am concerned...
There is a gap on the long side of the tank in the middle between the trim and the stand. The stand is made of steel tube and is flat and level. It looks like the bottom trim bows up. All 4 corners are in contact. I thought about putting some composite shims every 6 inches or so to support the trim. The tank is 90% full and the gap persists. Should I be panicking?

I checked in because I just set up my new tank on a steel stand, and I have the same bowing going on with my 80G! I put some special foam you would use under tile for bathrooms thinking it would bridge the gap, but it's the same thing. I know that all four corners have to be supported, so I'm not too concerned. I also found some threads saying that a few manufacturers give a 1/8" tolerance for the gap we're experiencing. It's a little crazy to think about, but it's almost normal

I think once I get the Apex and get these guys running I will put them on the overflow end of the tank.

Once it clears up I will start working on the scape. I am thinking 3 islands with lots of caves and swimming area. There may actually be too much rock in the tank
I will say this. The Vecra M1 is friggen SILENT. And with my 1500 GPH synergy reef overflow, I have to keep it down to 1 or 2 or there is so much water running through the overflow that my silent overflow becomes un-silent. I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be able to push enough water to run the tank and various reactors, remote fuge etc. That is absolutely NOT the case. The L1 would have been crazy overkill.
Of course, I don't have the Apex to run these yet..

Couple of fun updates on this black Friday. I mounted my RO unit and got the barrels drilled for float switches:
I bought a used Kessil A360We and a Radion Gen 3 Pro and they arrived today. I mounted them in my temporary fixture. I am going to grab a second Kessil and run it on the other end. The shimmer on this thing is unreal!
I also picked up some real reef branch rock and I think this is the aquascape for now. I am sure I'll be moving things around as we go, but I am happy with this:

Tank is starting to clear up. I played with the programming on the Kessil and Radion this morning. I don't have a Reeflink, so I had to connect to my laptop and use the desktop configuration. A few issues I am running into with the two different lights:
1.) The Radion is capable of colors that the Kessil is not, so in order to blend them, I have to keep the red and UV turned way down, otherwise I end up with different colored sections of the tank.
2.) The Kessil shimmers like crazy. Almost too much. I am not sure if I like it or not. It might be better when the Radion is moved to the middle to blend out the Kessils on the end. It will also help when I have my T5 hybrid figured out. The T5s will wash out some of the shimmer.
Aside from that, I am crazy happy with where the tank is at. I had the liverock sitting in my old tank for about a month, so there are some critters scooting around (snails, hermits, asterina starfish) but the cycle is chugging along.
