I have a question regarding potential adverse chemical reactions from test kit waste products. Some of the chemical precursors used in testing seem to be fairly hazardous, and I'm rather hesitant to just dump the waste products down the kitchen sink (have small children, wife doesn't like chemical stuff around the kitchen). My question is this, will I be ok to dump all waste water into a single container that I can then dump in the bathroom, or will I risk a secondary (potentially harmful) chemical reaction? I'd rather not create some noxious chemical cloud by doing so...

The test kits I'm mainly concerned with are the Hanna checkers for Calcium, Alk and Phosphorus ULR and the Red sea pro kits for Nitrate/Magnesium/Iodine. I don't usually use all of them at once, but every so often I do a testing blitz and test for everything.

So you are going to keep a container of what you consider hazardous waste around your house

instead of putting it down the sink and rinsing it down?

No, I just don't want to have to run up stairs to the bathroom holding 10 vials, would rather have a single container to dispose of.

I don't undestand the difference. It is the same drain bathroom or sink.
Wife doesn't want chemicals in the kitchen, bathroom is fine, but the bathroom is upstairs so it's a PITA for me, tank is downstairs by the kitchen. I'd rather have a jug I can just dump everything into and make the trip upstairs with one container.

Or you could put in a sink for your fish stuff
I did.

Get something to hold the vials and take them all at the same time upstairs. I am not sure you want to mix different chemicals together.

Yea that works too. I guess I could just use a Tupperware container and bring them all up and dump 1 by 1, would still rather just have single container to dump but that's not a bad option.

There's one way to find out! Seriously though, I think you will be ok. Maybe put some water in a bucket and then pour all the waste test liquids in that. Take it upstairs and dump it out. You could try to ask hanna, or red sea, or whoever, but most likely they will tell you not to mix any of them to cover their ...

Been dumping them together for 10 years. No explosions, fireballs or toxic clouds have formed.

I also dump them down the drain in the kitchen, but I always have the water running and it is one test at a time after the test is complete. I don't dump them all at the same time. I don't know what chemicals are in these test so I try and keep them separated.
