just got back in hobby over 12 years have several different brands and types are they still dependable due to their age, or is the only good part the testing tubes

What parameters?

You can always get a new kit, and if the old one is reasonably close, use it too.

Myself I would start with fresh and not mess with the old one, seilfret and Rs sea make good kits
