Test kits- should I get hanna

I use Hanna ULR phos and ALK and I guess by the reviews the copper is a good one too if you need it.

I use hanna for alk, Po4 and for Copper on my QT. I use red sea for ca and MAG.

Thats the new version for sale.

I did a test a couple of hours ago using the new RedSea on NSW & got a result that I'd expect, around 0.01ppm. This aligns with data from reef waters along the coast of Fiji, for example, 0.1 microMolar
My tank water reads 0.03ppm (0.32 microMolar)
I get the same result with a Salifert, but the Salifert is much harder to distinguish; - I have to use a 2nd vial with plain tank water & compare the two vials to see that the test vial is actually a slight blue colour, which with the Salifert is about 0.02 - 0.03ppm.

Ok so just curios the price of the Hanna is almost the same as the Red Sea. Why did you choose to go with the Red Sea?

The Hanna is far more expensive here in australia, & you have to pay postage as well.
the Redsea refills are much cheaper than the initial kit that has a special doser, test disc & vials/holder. The refills are just the reagents.
Its also very easy to use.

Alrighty well that makes sense

In australia the Hanna ULR phosphorus instrument is $73.70 plus 15.00 shipping
25 test, including shipping is $26.55, which is $1.06 per test.
The redsea refill works out at 27 cents a test.

I bought the Salifert reef kit: NO3, PH, PO4, KH, Ca, Mg for $72 on Black friday which is $12 each, 60 tests $0.20 each test. At regular price $20 each test cost $0.33. Hanna checker reagent is $0.36 not counting the cost of the checker!

I’m not really concerned with cost. I’m more concerned with accuracy and reliability. I think I am going to get Hanna meters for the test I have a difficult time with

That part regarding cost per test was unintentionally biased > 25 tests v 100 tests.

So 4 x 25 hanna tests + shipping is $61.20 which works out at 61 cents a test, which is still more than twice the cost of RedSea

That calculated from what it would cost you being in Australia correct?

I used to have a guy that would buy things and ship them to me and then I would ship to him after finding the cheapest option. He told me on several occasions that it saved him a ton of money. He lives in Australia. Met him on a different forum for RC aircraft.

yes correct. Shipping $15 for reagents. Its a rip off.

But I'm happy with RedSea in any case

In US $49 for Hanna vs $43 for Red Sea. Reagents are $8 for 25 tests, 0.32 per test for Hanna, $23 for 100 tests, 0.23 for Red Sea.

I'm very happy with my Hanna. :D (As noted spot on with every ICP test)

Edit.......And shipping is free for both for me.

I have the ultimate phosphorous, and I am now spoiled. I just opened a new traditional copper test kit and only lasted 3 days before giving up and ordering a copper checker. The alk checker is definelty on my wishlist.
