Test run

i have my sump built and tank drilled, is it a good idea to fill it with tap water for a test run just to see how everything flows before putting the rock and saltwater in for cycling?

My opinion, if you're comfortable with your workmanship, just go for it. If you're not for some reason, then do a test run/leak check.
