Testing display tank water for ich?

Ive just been going through a fallow period after an ich outbreak. Its been 76 days, but I was thinking of taking out 20 gallons of water out of my display tank and putting it in a clean quarantine tank and then adding a black molly in there to see if there's any ich still present. I figure it would be a better idea than adding the black molly to the display tank to find ich is still present and then have to go another 76 days fallow!
Any thoughts?

Probably would be a waste of time. 76 days is a pretty long period without fish. Even if ich was still in the system, the likelihood of you siphoning it out and it hosting a molly are incredibly slim. Plus, the molly could have had ich already if you’re buying it from a store. I’d add a hardy fish (quarantine it first of course) and then drop it in the display and you’ll be good to go!

Maybe the ick never made it in the 20g of water pulled, buts in the sand in your DT.
76 days is pretty safe.
