When looking at another post, someone on R2R said that our tanks can have high levels of aluminum. This is a concern to me because I heard that aluminum has been proved to be a neurotoxin. Here is one recent article from the New England Journal of Medicine:

Some comment that aluminum is one of the most common substances in the earth's crust; however, it always exists as aluminum oxide or some other compound. From what I understand, pure aluminum only came about in our grandparent's lifetime or something like that. I guess this can be related to the issue re: sodium chloride not being toxic yet splitting sodium from the chloride leading to disaster.

What might cause high aluminum levels other than Seachem phosphate "Sponge" medium? Is aluminum bad for our tanks /livestock? Should I test for aluminum? How can I test for aluminum? What are some good test kits to use?
