Currently I test weekly for pH, calcium, magnesium, NO3, PO4, and salinity and I test alkalinity everyday. I know that certain inverts like shrimp and clams require elements like iodine and strontium and other trace elements. Should I be testing for these? I don't have a clam yet, I am waiting for the year old mark but I do have a cleaner shrimp and will be getting others. What tests should I be doing in order to keep clams and shrimps successfully? Or is it ok to just trust that my biweekly 20% water changes replenishes those trace elements?

I find that water changes seem to be enough. I have never tested for these and I keep shrimp (not clams though). Red Sea has a dosing kit that is supposed to be doses at 1/20th their calcium. I find this to be easier than testing them all. Just be ready to dose alk anc calcium like crazy when you get a clam. From what I know, those things drain alk and calcium from the water like its nothing lol

I would only worry about testing for those elements if you are going to dose for them. Iodide is easily used and skimmed out kind of fast. If you do decide to dose those elements, I would test each day to determine your daily usage as well.

I have a 180g DT.....about 220/240g total volume.

I've been dosing 1.5ml of Brightwell's REPLENISH daily and noticing my corals are really responding. I totally TRUST this dosing regiment

I actually talked to Jack Kent for 20mins on the phone about REPLENISH..... super great awesome guy. He founded Kent Marine but now owns Brightwell. He said they FULLY test all products on their own farming-tanks before they ever think about selling it to consumers. I totally trust Jack's company IF YOU FOLLOW THEIR DOSING INSTRUCTIONS

If you want to see what's in REPLENISH....Google it.

When it comes to trace elements I say do a ICP test 3x a year.

Bottomline I only trust TWO dosing companies:
* Brightwell
* ESV

If possible I'd like to piggy-back on this thread. I've noticed some of my euphylias not opening like I'm accustomed to seeing. My LFS suggested dosing Iodide. My question is two-fold: Should I/can you effectively test for this element? Or is it relatively safe to dose without testing? Secondly, Replenish doesn't seem to contain Iodide, or am I missing that?

I currently dose Phyto and Red Sea's Coral Nutrition would you suggest some trace elements in addition?
