Ok sounds good. I’ll update more tomorrow

So there is zero ammonia or very little still waiting on nitrite kit.

I love your new tank, and share your excitement at getting it cycled!
While the tank is cycling, I would recommend that you leave the lights off to prevent problems with algae growth due to the excess food that will be added to get the bacteria cycle going.
And Welcome to R@R!

I am just turned them on for the picture. Thanks

If you have 0 nitrite as well I would feed a little more or you can buy a bottle of ammonium chloride from your LFS and dose it per the instructions on the bottle to around 2-3ppm

So my nitrite kit came in but is missing the scooper. Does anyone know the exact volume of the scooper saliferts nitrite kits comes with?

So I measured it just eyeballing and it looks to be about .25 this is probably not accurate at all but we shall see
It is possible that measurement is accurate, bottled bacteria typically does a better job converting ammonia to nitrite than nitrite to nitrate.

I agree though you really need to measure reagents accurately and should wait for the scooper to come.

Hold on to that excitement though--this first month or so of cycling is kired in anticipated waiting lol

I think it would be more economical to purchase a 2nd Nitrate test kit once shipping comes into play. I Googled .05 ml scoop and found one on Amazon (there may be others) for $25, which isn't helpful.

I have found items like these in local stores, but finding them isn't always easy. The first link was a make-up shop.

I think your best bet is to find someone local with an old Nitrate test kit who might be willing to donate their old scoop.

Which begs the question: Anyone on here have one and willing to drop it into a Xmas card to Kaden?

never hurts to ask.

FYI, Salifert calcium test kit also has the same 0.05 scoop.
I think. I was actually looking at their Nitrate test kit, but again I presume that these all use the same tiny red spoon?
Sorry for any confusion.
Now I've got to go find out if this information for Sal NitrIte is on the web>...

I looked online it is the same 0.05 ml red scoop for Nitrite, Nitrate, and Calcium test kits.

So my nitrate is at 5-10ppm ammonia is at 0 and nitrite isn’t accurate but tested 0 i’m going tomorrow to the fish store to get it retested but if it comes out as 0 does that mean my tank is cycled?
