I can pick up one of these pumps rated in the 1900gph range for really cheap right now. Looking at them they are a magnetic drive pump. But I cant find anything about anyone using them for saltwater. It would be going into my sump for my return. Anyone got some first hand experience with these?

No experience, but likely to have stainless steel components that will corrode in salt water. No information on head capability. Fountain pumps are generally very low head.

It states at 5ft it will do right at 1000gph. which is perfect for me. I know plenty of people use the pondmaster pumps. I think that's the right brand name they are basically the same thing as mag drives.

If you are looking at return pumps, look at the newer jebao ones. I know people dont like using these cheaper pumps but I have been using the DCT-6000 on my 135 running wide open for over a year now and My 40B with the 29gallon sump has the DCT-4000 and they are a champ! Ceramic shaft and the controllable nature is amazing. Last water change I removed the pump for maintenance and nothing was worn or even showing any signs of wear. I also wired in a couple of 7ah 12vdc backup batteries in parallel with the power supply (These pumps actually run on 24vdc!) and with a diode on the battery line and a trickle charger on the batteries, it works great.

It is probably fine.

However, check out Laguna Max Flo or Fluval SP... about the same money with decades of reliable dependability in reef tanks. Even if they are a little bit more, it is worth it, IMO.
