First off, like to say that Im glad to be here and appreciate all everyone has done for this forum so new guys like myself have somewhere to go when we need answers.
I had a 90g saltwater tank back in 1995. Back then a reef tank was a pile of Fiji live rock with some hitch hikers. I had a good system but boy have things changed. I'm now running a Nano reef tank, an aquatop 24. I seriously like this tank. I shopped for quite a while before settling on this one. My return pump is 475 gph (stock pump) and I have a jebao in the mail. I also run a jebao sw2 . Tank was started with dirty water from my LFS, live rock, and Florida crushed coral. Lighting went from the stock 30w light to a galaxyhydro 165w black box. Tank has been up for a month where the cycle (if you can call it that) lasted a few days before showing all 0's across the board. I'm running cheato in one large chamber, poly fiber and chemi pure elite in another, protien skimmer in one, then pump, ATO, and reactor in the last chamber. I only have plans to run the reactor with charcoal pellets when needed to polish water. For livestock I have the following : 6 line wrasse, pj Cardinal, chromis, peppermint shrimp, 2 hermits, 2 small snails (can't remember name but begins with a C, 2 trochus snails. For coral I have 1 leather, 1 gsp island, 1 tiny acan island, paly frag, rhodactis small colony, and a 3 head Duncan. Cured and live rock equals around 29lbs. Parameters all are right on the bottom of the scale for good reef numbers. NO2, NO3, NO4 All show 0 on 2 seperate test. I prefer the salifert tests. That's the basics of what I have and what I'm trying to do. I decided to join after snooping here for a long time because I had a scare thinking I may have already had
DINOFLAGELLATES in my tank. But from a few conversations it sounds like I may have dodged a bullet. Well let hope so. My tank has been "clean" for several weeks now. Then I started getting green on my white rock. It slowly became more and more then out of no where got very thick and stingy. Also has bubbles in it. It's green and falls off under fresh water but is not easily rubbed off rocks. With all water flow shut off it stays put and doesn't release.. I'm trying to read through and digest some of the info on the sticky now. I guess I need to dirty up my tank some from what I'm reading. Up until last week I didn't even get any skimmate . Anyway thanks for going through all that rambling and thanks for having me here.
