I wanted to give a shout out to those who have either directly helped answer my questions or have written the articles to point me in the right direction. Especially @maroun.c @d2mini @saltyfilmfolks @najer and everyone else who has offered guidance along the way. I figured I'd share some of my better shots that I have taken recently.

Starting with this one... I finally figured out how to get the blues on the fish to not oversaturate the picture.

Learning how to capture moving fish without as much blur

Understanding depth of field and how it can help keep larger areas in focus.

Or using depth of field to blur everything but the focal point, in this case the face

And of course, my new love of extension tubes.

Put a bunch of these together, along with a lot of luck, and I even got this....

This old dog can be taught new tricks!!!

Nice pictures...
Now post camera specs and what you did to help others!
It's a Nikon D5100, with 3 different lenses and a set of extension tubes. Honestly, I kept reading the articles over and over and practiced with hundreds of pictures to try and figure out exactly how to apply each article. And, I use Lightroom for post editing. I wish I could give a one stop answer to make it simple but I can't.

You just did. I basically did the same thing.
Follow some tips and suggestions from others then start shooting myself. Glad you are getting the hang of it..

Looking good!
Those blue tangs are by far one of the hardest fish to photograph. Something about their coloring... the camera sensors hate it! ;Rage
That's why I'm thrilled with that first picture, even if it isn't a macro. Once you explained that using a custom white balance would help the camera see it correctly the fish no longer ruins almost every shot he is in or require a mind numbing amount of editing.

Have you noticed a difference in picture quality shooting through different glass quality. Such as a aqueon/Marineland vs Red Sea/waterbox? I’ve always been curious if it makes a big difference when using an actual dslr not a phone.

I've only shot through my tank, so nothing to compare it to. It's 1/2" s starfire glass. I can tell you that the quality goes down drastically if you don't shoot straight into the tank. Any angle at all causes distortion on a macro.

Great set of pics u got there. Glad the articles helped.
