...you wake up and see a horseshoe crab perched on your circulation pump thinking "when the heck did I buy a horseshoe crab?" as the girlfriend slyly sneaks out of the room like a ninja.

That's one reason I'm glad my wife doesn't show a heavy interest in reefkeeping. She has suggested a couple of fish here and there, but understands that if we can't really take care of it properly (eg, need more tank or different food type, etc) then we can't get it.

Though, she did spark my love of anthias, which may end up being her downfall! (at least, our bank accounts' downfall) ;)

Apparently he's been in there for 2 weeks. I explained to her the difficulties of horseshoes and that he will probably end up as food for my valentini puffer.

:(

Was she reasonable about it?

I remember seeing some website selling them recently and saying 'PERFECT FOR NANO TANKS!!!!!' and it made me facepalm so hard I almost killed myself.

She was but sad at the same time. I ordered my valentini last week and he's chilling at the LFS until Thursday. I don't know if he'll eat the horseshoe but I explained the chances.

Haha! That's awesome!!

One day a few months ago i came home and all my rocks and a big portion of the back glass of the tank were covered in these calcified white splotches. I had no idea what they were at the time, but I now know them to be nerite snail eggs. That moment when you realize that there was so much snail sex going in right under your nose. :bounce:

That awkward moment when you explain to people that if Finding Nemo were real life, that Nemo would become a male and start breeding with Marvin his dad who would become a female.

as funny as that is, is that what all the white spirals are on the back of my tank? good guys or bad guys?

those are baby feather dusters (micro sized)

not really. If they are calcareous spirals, they are spirorbid worms, not feather dusters, but filter feeders. They're harmless, but unfortunately, will grow on anything and everything and you will never be rid of them. Come to terms with that now. I've been losing the fight with them for nearly a year now. They're covering the glass, rocks, powerheads, coral skeletons, and my clams.
