Just did a big water change. pulled out a bunch of algae and cleaned the substrate. Looks so dang good. Why can't my tank always look like this?! It's a new tank so going through the ugly phase still. Tips for keeping this tank looking sharp?

Good quality carbon reduces yellowing of water and uv sterilization also has a clarifying effect.

I run ozone thru the skimmer for an hour a day. This breaks down the yellowing compounds into more easily gac and skimmer removable organics.

I run both. I guess i just have to get through the ugly phase. slight algae issue and diatoms.

Right on. My water is crystal clear just going through the ugly phase i guess.

Do nothing at all but keep all 8 water chemistry parameters in range and stable with regular water changes, it will all pass as the good bacteria’s multiply.

first year tough, but, subsequent years WOW....

here’s three years old.

I use both. I have no issues with clarity. I guess i just need to wait for the ugly stage to pass. Thanks though!

Awesome! Thanks. Only thing thats going to be rough is that I plan on moving and upgrading to a bigger tank so I'll have to go through this again. Oh well! Beautiful tank.
