just because I see it myself with my SPS.. coloration is lost very quickly.. Thats why I have added the radion xr15 g5 blue to my red sea max nano aio...

Now I cranked up the intensity alot and colors seem to recover.

I may change my lighting in the future then, I need the nice balance between having blue lights and white lights instead of heavy blues as the main colour I want with coral is blue and purple (All of my fish are mainly whites, blacks, yellows, reds, ect and I’m trying to have different colour corals to the fish - Obviously I’ll look for something orange eventually).

I like to find a balance with a little more white light than most people as well...the dark blues can be cool with the fluorescence but I don't like my tanks being so dark all the time and it also doesn't look as natural as it does with a little more white

I’m wondering what would happen if I boosted my whites a certain percent then did the same with my blues. Would that keep the whites heavy or fail completely and bleach everything.

I'm no lighting expert but i believe your par comes primarily from the blue wavelengths so the white light does have some blue wavelengths and therefore some par but not as much as the blue...you might wanna double check that though.

The percents currently are;
Whites:
10am They begin to come on
12pm they hit 45%
3pm they hit 70%
6pm they hit 45%
8pm Whites are off
Blues:
10am They begin to turn on
12pm They hit 30%
6pm They remain at 30%
8pm Blues are off
Moons:
8pm They turn on
9:10pm They hit 10%
9:40pm they remain at 10%
10:55pm They turn off

Changed the lighting so that at 3pm they will be 55% and the whites will be at 75%. Took the lights off of the 5 day acclimation and I got these photos, I wanted your guys’ views on if these look better or not for photos.

P.S. The lights went back onto acclimation after these photos but instead of 5 days it’s 3 as the lights have done 2 days of acclimation.

Are you taking the pics with your phone? If so, they sell clip on lenses that help to cancel out some of the blue light to show the true colors or the coral better

Yeah I am getting the photos with a phone camera - some come out decent others just refuse to co-operate.

Nice pics! The colors on the fish show up really vibrant...oh, and about your lights you might notice a little more algae growth from turning up the whites. I have pretty low nutrient levels but since I have my whites kinda high the algae grows faster so I end up cleaning a little more. Nothing terrible though.

Definitely noticed algae growth is sped up.
I think every 2 days I have to clean the glass. I hope it doesn’t become an issue for the SPS coral in the long run.

I don't think it will...I've had my whites turned up for a while and the algae hasn't interfered with the coral...btw, do you add any coral supplements? I feed reef roids twice a week but that's all...I'm just not sure most of those supplements really do much

I didn’t until recently, only today and yesterday did I start to add Coral Snow to the tank and spot feed the SPS.
Usually I won’t spot feed them 2 days in a row but as I want to try give them the best start I can I did.

One week in on my new coral (I’ll do a second post for the fish which will explain a lot). They just went through a large move and so will be more closed up than normal. They have settled in nicely and from today on I will do updates on growth, I won’t be surprised if they don’t do much in the first month or two as it seems all acros/SPS just sit and do nothing for a good month or two then suddenly grow.

Now as for the pseudocheilinops ataenia… Not good news. It’s been a week, last I saw her was 3/4 days ago and that was only for a few seconds until she hid and never came back out. I think I mentioned previously there was some difficulty with the blenny habitating with her, in other words he would bite the pink streak until she hid. Today I got worried as usually I would’ve seen the pink streak by now (I normally see all of the rock sleeping wrasses the next day or two). I haven’t fed her for 3 days - I’m aware my pod population is high however I still don’t want to risk it. I took appart the sump in search for her assuming she could’ve gotten down there, no sign of her. Tore appart the rockwork except three that were impossible to get under except if you were a griessinger goby. Absolutely no sign of her. 4 hours later and still no sign of her. I think I lost her and am kicking myself over it. I have a feeling the CUC got to her after dying of possibly stress.
Second attempt at a pink streak and it failed… I may try a third attempt and do everything the same as my first attempt however I may just go for a wetmorella species instead depending on how I feel.

Here’s a rather bad FTS as the lights are dimming for the night (Polyps on the SPS will be extending more soon though).

Thanks! I’m annoyed about the pink streak but man it just makes me want to build coral more for the extra hiding spots

Yeah, they went through a move today though - I have seen their polyps out heavy in the night and from what I’ve read in the day normally SPS will have fewer polyps in light anyway. Ontop of that I have a blenny and a clown goby that enjoy perching spots.

Another thing I find weird is if the stylo is unhappy, why isn’t the acro (Which are meant to be worse than other SPS to care for).
