Not much to update on since yesterday. Enjoy the FTS (Not too good as my film algae growth is hell)

Now let’s get into the close ups!

As I’m sure many of you are intrigued to see what I look for to know my tank is thriving, here is the main things I’ll look for. Yes I took the caulastrea as an example for the second one as I had never been able to catch him

First up is the obvious one, amphipods. Even just one of these will help me to know that my pod population is still high (Usually if I see one and I stay up long enough watching the tank for about 5 minutes I’ll spot 2-3 sometimes 4 or 5 even). This is my favourite indicator as I can see where they hide and where their preferred spots are (Usually that’s where my pod population is highest).

Another I look for in the night is Polyp Extension, on my LPS I often watch for things like feeder tentacles. My hammer hasn’t shown many however they usually occur later at night. This guy though, I’ve never caught his feeders out (Photo was taken a while after watching the tank so they’re not as far out as they were previously). This guy I thought was doing nothing and just surviving but seems to be that he’s thriving. I will also look for PE in my SPS corals however I find that it tends to be best later on in the night so I didn’t get a photo of PE on my acro, monti or stylo.

My third big hint is the sand bed. I use this both day and night as it doesn’t really change and you can see all colours no matter what. Usually I wouldn’t say thriving until it’s got both green, reds, sometimes brown can occur but I find that it won’t always occur.

And my final hinter is Coralline, this is one of the biggest as usually Coralline won’t grow until everything is stable in my tanks. Sometimes its harder to grow due to me having urchins in most of the tanks though. Whilst I have urchins eating it I will find small patches of it grow and then one day vanish and repeat the cycle so I can often use that as a hint.

Well I finally got to my LFS that does Acros and I got 3 of them for excellent prices along with a fish. Will get photos of the coral in acclimation and the fish for all the wrasse lovers (Although it’s not for this tank).

Will do a full tank update with the coral in later (Maybe tomorrow once I know they’re settled) so keep an eye out for that!

Okay, I left it a few hours as I was keeping an eye on my new flasher. Here’s a few photos of them all! The pink guy is a milli, the yellow is Im pretty sure assumed to be a PC rainbow (Maybe the other way round). The third is unknown but I enjoy the unknown/named corals as they’re not so pricey and plus, a name is just a name!

This feels like a very successful trip, came home with a beautiful fish and 3 stunning acropora corals!

Well, I’m not 100% sure but do feel like I’ve just witnessed the blenny nipping one of the 3 new Acros (The centre one).

I was beginning to love the blenny as well. I have 2 other blennies on my mind that I’d love to attempt (Tiger Tail and Bifasciatus).

I did the 4’ tanks water change and found some beautiful life in the sump. I began to carefully look for some life for my nano, I had been growing a stunning sponge for a while too. Also changed the rockwork during the WC of this tank.
So, I added;
1 MicroBrittle Starfish (I don’t know if he was eaten)
4-5 Limpets (Atleast 3 survived if not all)
1 Nice sized chunk of sponge.

This guy was just moved back up there as he was knocked down so his polyps aren’t as good as “normal”.

Some early morning pictures! The Milli is really showing some beautiful colours. The other guy is also showing some stunning Polyp Extension. The third fell into my sponge at some point in the night and has lost some colour at the tips and around him. I hope that he’s not going to wind up dead - I didn’t realise sponges could cause bleaching on coral.

And my other Acro, I really am gaining a love for this tank as the colours that will come in on these guys will be so fun to watch!

This guy fell into the dark and I have no idea how long for but it seemed long enough for him to begin possibly bleaching. Hopefully I can revive him

The guy that fell into the sponge has seemed to regrow over where it looked bleached. Still no polyp extension from him unfortunately.

The third acro is iffy, mainly due to it constantly falling and getting knocked off (Curse the Mexican Turbo Snail).

And now the sponge, mainly being used as a food source for the fish at this rate which isn’t great. The rest of him appears to be doing okay though.

Really doesn’t help that my blenny and clown goby enjoy to perch in on them though as they’re not large frags unlike my older acro and my stylo.

Actually, No I don’t. I caught it hiding in the Sump of my 4’ tank as a hitchhiker but no idea how it got in there. So I decided to take a part of it for the nano.

And you know what this means… rescape time! Do I know when I’ll rescape the nano? Most likely today just later on when I do the water change! I have always loved tanks with barnacles in them and today my LFS had several clusters (I even left one that I may go back for next week).

Now just to figure out how to do it so the barnacles look good. I may take out the rock from my tank and use most of it then any bits I don’t use I can try and work around them.

I’d love to! I have a slightly different blenny in mind though
Escenius pulcher, maybe I’ll consider replacing my Lineatus with some barnacle blennies though or maybe I’ll try find a group for my 4’ tank!
I’m close to pulling the trigger on the lineatus being moved.
