I used to work at a dolphinarium in Cancun where at new year's it used to be a tradition to set off hundreds of helium ballons into the air.
My bosses (never myself) used to tell me that they would find dolphins washed up onto the shore and when autopsied they would often times find balloons in their stomachs (same with sea turtles).
I think the problem is that even when people are exposed to such tragedies, rarely do they ever try to change unless it affects them directly. Thing is that soon it WILL affect all people directly.
Does R2R have an awareness thread of some sort for this kind of stuff?
