Hello all. I've been in aquarium hobbies for 15 years. Serious saltwater for 4. I have a triton based SPS that is great. I have gone through the process of trying many methods of algae control. But the trade off is always this: Control nutrient export very effectively the corals pale and or don't thrive. Feed more, corals happy and algae is happy. I don't have large algae eating fish which I look forward to using in my soon to be 240. But in my 90 I don't want to put a large fish to help. Vibrant kept the tank very clean, but killed the chaeto refugium and I would prefer to achieve an equilibrium more naturally, ie less additives. The triton tests say my N and P are not low or high. In summary, I haven't found a balance yet for my 90 gallon. Any advice would be appreciated. I look forward to seeing if lower light in my mixed 240 will help avoid the algae prospering.

Yep same pretty much. It's definitely more of a pain when you have algae types that nothing wants to eat making manual removal the only option. Vibrant stalled my algae but didn't kill it and in the process nearly wiped out all my ricordea so not going there again. TOTM are usually jammed packed with coral so maybe that is a factor - lots of coral to steal nutrients from algae.
