For the life of me I cant seem to find a balance and grow the right types of algae!
-I battled with Chrysophytes, found i had a major imbalance and 0 nitrate and 0 phosphate, beat em with manual removal and dosing nutrients.
-Subsequently a tonne of cyano followed with the nutrient spike. Siphoned and managed feeding. Worked.
-Never had any major coralline growth (started with dry rock), finally started to see some bits and pieces for about 2 weeks then they died off.
-Simultaneously with the coralline die off, bryopsis took off (I qt everything wet so this irked me)
- Bryopsis is currently an issue, Im working on reducing my Nitrates prior to flucanozol (im against treating problems with chemicals but its overgrown and infested my tank) Im seeing algae on sandbed and cyano coming back. Siphoning bi weekly and filtering into socks to remove.
My rocks are still very bare and white, i dont clean the glass more than 1xweek and theres next to no film algae. Tank is 18 months old. Parameters stay stable but its not due to water changes or dosing, i seem to have no update of nutrients! Dont have a heavy bioload 4 fish in a 100 gal system. Photon v2, recently adjusted schedule and reduced intensity. Reduced temp to 78 from 79 to see if this solved anything. Torches seem to be happier since above changes (1-2 weeks).
Latest parameters
Nitrate 15
Phos 0.046
Alk 9.1
Cal 470
Mag 1460
Salinity 1.025
Ph fluctuates from 8.3-8.15
Any sort of comment, guidance, action plan much appreciated. My simple 20 gal qt is outperforming my display :/
