It appears that you can sex them by the check spine, long = male short = female. Mine seems to be a female. She is well behaved super eats everything fish. hasn't picked on any corals, clams

Love the Regals.

Think mine is male but it’s a short spine (although he is also a small specimen).

My new misbar regal, any ideas how to sex them?

As a general method of sexing fish, that look the same between the sexes. View the fish from the head on view or tail on view and look at the shape of the underneath of the fish near the anal vent. (The area where sperm or eggs are stored.) This will appear "V" shaped on a male or immature female and will appear "U" shaped on a mature female. (As smaller sperm require less storage space than larger eggs.)

If the fish is known to you to be sexually mature in age, this method is reliable.

Used to catch French Angels in the surf off what is today called South Beach in the 70s. Be cool raising those up but my favorite being an Emperor and seeing Julian with one gives me hope although close competitor being a Maculosas.

My Emperor has been very good about leaving my leathers alone. Are there other corals that you have found don’t tempt them?

Large angels usually leave soft corals such as mushrooms & leathers alone, but would feast on LPS and SPS IME.

And I forgot - it leaves the palys & the anthelia alone. I wish it would eat the anthelia!

lol you wish. Large angels only eat the corals that reefers like the most typically.

Well I knew going in this would be the reality of having an Emperor but thought maybe I could push the envelope a bit lol

Emperor angels usually leave healthy Acropora alone, but that Chaetodon rafflesi would probably chow down on any SPS you add. The C. rafflesi is definitely worth it though, it's a really nice looking fish that is very under appreciated in the hobby. You should definitely post a few pics of it in the butterflyfish lovers' thread!

I wanted to share this little guy with ya'll. She is a biota Multibar that I've had since 7-1-24. She's eating frozen and fresh hatched brine well. I haven't had any luck getting her to eat pellets; which is probably ok since I feed my tank frozen and brine regularly. I'm a bit nervous to let her out of the acclimation box as she is so small she could slip right through the overflow
I'm also concerned about my bristletooth tomini tang, who spends a lot of time flashing around the tank and chases my watchman back into his cave all the time.
Any advice about how long to keep her in the acclimation box would be welcome.

How big is your tank? I see that you have a male Flame Angel eyeing her. He won’t beat her up. Maybe a little chasing is all. I would her loose if she is eating well.

Try a mirror for the tang if you haven't already tried it. Put a nori clip by it so it has to see it when it eats.
