The Angel Lovers Thread

Do you have any Genicanthus females in the tank? I have heard and seen a a few revert if they were the only one in the tank. My Bellus malenis growing streamers now that he has two female bellus in the tank with him.
The thing is, he isn’t fully reverted. He’s in what appears to be a submale stage which is what makes me assume that there’s a stage that is rarely ever mentioned when it comes to reverting angelfish. He is the only Genicanthus in the tank (I have wanted a Lamarck angel but my tank size isnt huge).

I have almost never heard anyone taking about a “submale” phase with angels - It’s mostly used in terms of wrasses. However, surely if one can transition into a male then they can also revert (or even transition) to a submale stage (Or maybe even form - As Ive said previously, the pattern isn’t reverting any further and just remains scribbled).

Ahh I see. Do you think going by the size they’re expected to reach in an average tank, will an Asfur or Passer outgrow a 72” x 28-30” x 24”? (200-220)
In time, yes. My Passer is about 11-12 inches now from 6 inches a few years ago. He’s tank he’s boss though which plays a role and if we believe that fish can grow to their environments (somewhat controversial), he’s in a ten foot tank.

Here’s my Genicanthus melanospilos today, streamers are re-growing but his pattern hasn’t changed at all. See what I mean by it’s like he’s a submale and not having to display full colours so he’s still a male he’s just not what would be called a “terminal male” when the colours and pattern are at their height with wrasses (I assume they’re called the same with Angels).

I'm streamerless on both of mine. Maybe some day.
Hopefully your Genicanthus do start to show streamers, mine doesn’t get extremely long streamers but then again, I don’t expect a captive specimen to get the streamers like you see in wild photos.
for example this photo - not my photo.

Wow those are quite nice all grown up. Yours is already getting that adult dorsal.

I need a bigger tank.

Mine used to look VERY close to that but with a black tail (Which is where I got confused and thought he could be a Caudovittatus).

Got a tank for you guys to give me thoughts of what you’d add :)
The dimensions are:
3’x16”x1’ (Custom Made Tank that I got for a rather cheap price of 700)

So far my thoughts have been;
Centropyge multicolor
Paracentropyge venusta

Obviously I only want one Angel and I only want this to be the tall fish. I have been leaning towards the Multicolor as it’s been a dream fish of mine for a while but the Venusta is right up my ally in terms of “difficulty”. The rest of the fish will be Wrasses and Gobies if this helps anything :)

I recently added a juvenile majestic to my red sea 625 (650?) tank. He’s been pestered by my tomini tang (who now leaves him alone mostly) then coral beauty angel (who is slowly accepting him) and now my lamarks angel who I’ve never seen bother anyone before. Have I made a hige mistake and if so can anyone provide any recommendations or do angels typically settle in to acceptance after a few days? I have lots of caves and tunnels in my rock work but also lots of coral so I can’t shift my rocks to reset aggression. Any thoughts?

They often settle in after a while, how long has the pestering been going on for?

It has only been about 4 days but he’s visibly taken a beating so it’s concerning of course. He’s still eating like a champ and doesn’t seem overwhelmingly stressed to the point of death but I don’t want to reach that point. Thanks for the reassurance. I’ve been feeding a lot to try to lower fish aggressiveness but they (mainly the lamarcks now) still chase him when they see him.

Have you ever ordered an angelfish and it came in much smaller than ordered? I do not have that problem. And yes I immediately got on the phone trying to find someone to take him. FYI I ordered a juvenile to Sub Adult from Fiji

Dang, I would’ve kept him haha.
Absolutely beautiful Angel, the dorsal is so striking.

I would like to have a regal and a flame in the same tank but want to buy the small CB regal. If I get the regal first and grow him out a bit, will it be okay to later add the flame?

It should be alright even if you get the flame first, Dwarf angels and Large/Medium angels usually get along the best.

Can I get your opinions on the health of this fish? Centropyge multicolor is a dream fish and I would love one in my 3’x16”x1’ Nano. The white spots aren’t ich - They’re just air bubbles from the water flow. This specimen was swimming and appeared to be feeding quite happily.

Belly looks full. Eyes and fins clear. Looks good. I would pay for it and leave there for a week or two if it just came in. No harm letting it settle in there at low copper level if he does what my lfs does. Beautiful fish.
