The Angel Lovers Thread

But if the clam or other coral isn’t doing well health wise due to other reasons, then all bets are off on Reef safe angels.

Doing a restart on my 180 gal fowler. Was thinking of having as many "pairs" as possible. Can large angels be paired? Was looking at 2 different kinds, Goldflake, Majestic, or Regal for large angels and a pair or two of dwarf angels. Or maybe a harem of Flame Angels. If going with harem of flame, will only 3 be advisable or would 5 work if getting 4 small and one large? Anyone with any advise or experience if this would be possible? Just thought since I'm doing a restart it might be kinda cool to do a "pairs" themed tank.

The large angels you mentioned are doable in an 180g, but I would only do 1 dwarf. The large angels mentioned are from different breed the large angel species, thus there is less conflict. Can’t say that for the dwarf angles like there are more specifics

Are they doable as pairs is my question and what is the best way to pair them. I was thinking of getting a juvenile and adult would that work?

High risk of incompatibility since it’s not easy to tell their gender. If you want “pairs”, go with ones that you can tell visually. Like watanabei, bellus, swallowtail, personifer, scribble.

2 pairs at the most. Like one pair of Reef safe angels and one pair of large ones like personifer or scribble.

Beautiful angels!

How do you find their behavior on the reef - do they pick, nip, devour corals?

~Bruce

Thanks Bruce,

The Tank is heavily loaded with sps, 4 gonioporas , a couple of balsto few zoa, few mushrooms and 1 clam. The 2 Genicanthus are 100% reef safe , the Centropyges are picking constantly on rocks, only emperor eats zoa and acans (so no acans in the tank) . I don't have any issue with zoa colonies, the problem is i can't add any small zoa frag, as it will be eaten instantly. I am a bit surprised that nothing is touching my clam.

Newly acquired Black Phantom Angel. Any experts out there to confirm that is what this is.
I have pics I personally took of black velvets and yellow tail pomas and there not like this. They are similar.

I picked him up locally (TSM Corals), unfortunately he didn't make it. Never really ate aggressively & just stopped all together.

I know TSM and I hate to tell you but that was a black Phantom not a black velvet. I’m sorry to hear he didn’t make it
