The Angel Lovers Thread

Well they are still deciding if they are going to get along, but no nipped fins and they have picked opposite sides of the tank to sleep.
The majestic gets up early (0345) cause she knows I feed the good stuff before I leave for work, so she is looking great.
The blue face has sampled all the softies in the tank except the pulsing xenia...now he's decided what he's fed is better, (LRS REEF FRENZY) so less nibbling on the palys. I did rearrange the rocks, and my little yellow tang thought he was Tommy toughnut for the first 12 hours but so far so good.
I used the mirror to occupy everyone else, the wrasses have been very entertaining.

That is so cool!!!
And your blue face is gorgeous.

Thanks. I was a little worried the Potters may fight, never intended them for the same tank but the small one was getting bullied in another tank and was smaller and more orange and based on what I could find meant maybe they'd pair up. For several months they ignored each other and just recently started spawning each evening after the t5 lights turn off.

And the Blue Face is one of my favorite fish in the tank. Doesn't let me keep zoas or some other fleshy stuff but he's worth it. Also one of the favorites of people that see my tank.

I'm not an expert. The pygmy is very shy. If your tank has a ton of rockwork for it to hide and graze it might work. The key with the little guys is constant food. He will need to have algae sheets at all times if you don't have very mature live rock. I would also use masstick. Mix phyto in it instead of just rodi water.
That particular one needs a bit bigger tank, they recommend 55g, I would give it a shot, but I'm not the most responsible keeper either.
To avoid high nitrates and ammonia in that size tank with a fish that needs to eat all the time is going to be difficult. The nice thing about the masstick is he can nibble all day.
Make sure u see it eat in the lfs before u take it home.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help! I was looking at the flameback angel, one of the Pygmy species. Do you have any experience with those?

Unfortunately I tried the blue pygmy before I understood their nutritional needs...it died as a result of my stupidity. I was feeding food that was too big and had fish that are too bold for a fish like that. I thought that semi aggressive meant the little guy would hold his own. He hid so much I rarely saw him, I'm sure he stopped eating. I researched the masstick and an autofeeder to make sure all the fish can get nutrition after that. Now there are 3-4 different sizes of food in my 2 larger feedings and 3 different sizes of food in the feeder. My nitrate is back up to 20ppm again so we did a water change yesterday and I turned off the auto feeder for today, substituting the masstick for the continuous feeding today.
I didn't feel that I had the smaller Angels would do well after my fail. I have a peacock wrasse and a lunare wrasse in addition to a yellow tang and coral beauty they are too bold for a fish that size and temperament.

Yes. They are from Poma Labs. Once the slightly larger one became the dominant fish, every one gets along very peacefully. They have been with me since little babies. :)
I want to get one. I have been talking to Matthew for a while about one. I’m hoping that the tank will have aged enough by this August to get one. Do you have other angels in the tank with them? What size is your tank?

Matt is one of the nicest people that I have ever known. I was one of their early customers. You will be very happy if you decide to get one. My tank is an Elos 160XL (approximately 200 gallons). The Conspic pair is with a pair of Joculators and a Bandit.

I feel the exact same way about Matthew. It’s another reason that I want to buy from him. How long have you has your conspics for? What size are they now? I would absolutely love a pair of them. I want a Scribbled angel as well. I also love poma’s blue line and blue spot angels. Too many choices lol. The captive bred seem to stay smaller

Is it accurate that the distance and shape of the head allows the sex to be determined or is that horse hockey?
Not sure. Never heard of that before. It doesn’t mean that it’s not true though. I just never heard that before
